Planting Trees in Forest Lawn

On Saturday September 26th, 2015, the IISC volunteer group in collaboration with the Community of Forest Lawn, Antyx Community Arts and Parks Foundation Calgary, went to a park in Forest Lawn by 43rd street and 10th SE to land scape the park, as well as plant trees. 9 trees, 25 shrubs and 125 herbaceous plants were planted all together, al hamdulillah. Planting trees in one of the forms of continuous charity (sadaqah jariyah) mentioned by the Prophet (SAW).

From the virtues of cultivating land and planting trees:

1- Anas reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying: “Never does a Muslim plant trees or cultivate land and birds or a man or a beast eat out of them but that is a charity on his behalf.” (Sahih Muslim 1553)

2- Anas reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) as saying: “ Seven things will continue to benefit the slave while they are in their grave after their death: 1- Whoever taught knowledge. 2- Facilitated a waterway to the people. 3- Dug a well. 4- Planted a tree. 5- Builds a masjid. 6- Leaves a copy of the Quran as inheritance. 7- Leaves a child behind that seeks forgiveness for them after their death.” (Reported by Al Bazzar and authenticated by Sh. Al-Albani in Sahih al Jami 3602).

We encourage the community to go and visit the park upon its completion on October 17th, 2015.
