Eid Mubarak | Eid prayer will be starting at 9:00 AM on Wednesday – July 6, 2016 at the Calgary Socc

Tomorrow: Tuesday, July 5th, 2016 will be the 30th and final day of Ramadhan and therefore, Wednesday, July 6th, will be the date of Eid Al-Fitr this year.

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, As salam alaikum wa rahamatullahi wa barakaatuhu,

Another Ramadan has passed and another Eid is upon us. I pray Allah accepts our fasting, praying, supplication, charity, and all other righteous deeds. Ameen!

I would like to take this opportunity to enlighten you about the day of Eid and some of the recommended acts for this day:

  1. Taking a bath (Ghusl).

  2. Wearing one’s best clothes, and for the men perfuming themselves.

  3. Have an odd number of dates before leaving for Eid prayer. If one does not have dates any food will do.

  4. Going to the Eid Musalla. Even if the woman is not praying she is encouraged to come and attend.

  5. Saying Takbeeraat from the morning till the Imam starts the salah. Further instruction on the takbeeraat will be given on site, insha Allah.

  6. The Eid prayer consists of 2 units. The first unit has 7 takbeeraat in it including the initial takbeer (Takbeeratul Ihram). The Second unit has 5 takbeeraat in it including the takbeer of standing.

  7. It is followed by a single khutbah which is encouraged to listen to but not obligatory.

  8. Greet and congratulate one another with good greetings. “Eid Mubarak” (May your Eid be blessed) and "Taqballa Allahu minna wa minkum" (May Allah accept from us and from you) are acceptable.

  9. It is preferable to take a different path home than the one that you took to come to the Musalla.

  10. Pay your Zakat Al-Fitr before you come! Zakat al-Fitr is compulsory upon all those that have food stored in their houses, even upon the fetus to be born.

I would also like to remind all of the parents to make Eid a joyous occasion for the children so that they learn to love this day. Please do give them gifts and try to make it as festive as possible for them.

Navaid Aziz
