As salam 'alaikum wa rahamatullahi wa barakaatuhu, We here at the IISC would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Ramadan Mubarak! Insha Allah, the first day of this year's Ramadan is Saturday – May 27, 2017. At the IISC we will be having the Taraweeh prayer right after Isha at both at Edmonton Trail - Ukrainian Cultural Center located at 404 Merdedith Road, NE and Kerby Center at 1133 7th Ave SW in Downtown, with in-sha Allah completing recitation of one 'hizb' every night. You can download Ramadan 2017 schedule from IISC website or if needed, please check your local musallah/masjid for the timings in your respective area.
IISC is organizing a fundraising Iftar on Friday - June 9, 2017. Please see poster below with details and kindly assist us to bring your family and friends. Complimentary tickets are available at IISC Edmonton Trail or you can send email to email@example.com to reserve your spot. Babysitting will be arranged for $5/child but it requires advance bookings. Seats are limited!
In preparing for this auspicious month I would like to remind myself and you of some virtuous deeds during this month:
Try to complete a recitation of the Quran. Just five pages with every Salah will allow you to do so. Share your food and minimize the wastage. The one who gives food to the fasting person gets the reward of their fast as well.
Try to attend the taraweeh prayer as much as you can, and if you are unable to then at least aim for Isha.
There is an accepted dua'a when an individual opens their fast. Open your fast with a date and water, supplicate, and then you can proceed as you like.
A lot of people give their zakat in this blessed month. If you are from them this is just a friendly reminder so you don't forget. The IISC accepts and distributes zakat money as well.
Zakat ul-Fit'r is $10/person and you can donate it online at iisc.ca. All money collected for the zakat ul-Fit'r is distributed to the needy families in Calgary.
Wishing you and your family a blessed Ramadan. As salam 'alaikum wa rahamatullah -Navaid Aziz
