The Coronavirus and Jumah Services

The Coronavirus and Jumah Services

As salam 'alaikum wa rahamatullahi wa barakaatuhu,

My dear brothers and sisters we know that community members are growing increasingly concerned with the announcement of local cases of the coronavirus. Alberta Health Services is actively monitoring the situation and leading the response in Alberta. In preparation for Jumah we at the Islamic Information Society of Calgary wanted to share some best practices to ensure, as best as possible, everyone's safety.

  1. Please make wudhu before you arrive to Jumah. Using warm water if possible.

  2. If you have to cough or sneeze please cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve, not your hands. Dispose of tissue immediately.

  3. Please try to use hand sanitizer before entering the Masjid.

  4. Please bring your own prayer mat if possible.

  5. Please avoid shaking hands or hugging. Please don't be offended if people choose not to shake your hand.

  6. If given special instructions by the Imam, trustees, or facility caretaker kindly oblige.

  7. If you are sick, or even have symptoms like a fever, coughing, or trouble breathing please pray dhuhr where is convenient for you instead. This is permitted and one would not be sinful for abiding. This is to protect our centres and congregation. Please refer to this statement by the Assembly of Muslim Jurists of America. Please also consult your physician for further medical advice if you have not already done so.

  8. Say your adhkar, and place your trust in Allah. People should not abandon religious obligations pre-maturely. If in doubt please consult your local Imam or Shaikh.

Say, “Nothing will ever befall us except what Allah has destined for us. He is our Protector.” So in Allah let the believers put their trust. (9:51)

May Allah protect us, our families, and our communities with good health, Iman, and Taqwa. Ameen.

Was salam 'alaikum wa rahamatullahi wa barakaatuhu
