Sadaqa Jariya – Build Wells in Water-scarce communities
In a loving memory of brother Abdulla Barahim (Rahimahullah)

As-salamu Alaykum,

The IISC is partnering with the International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF) to establish a Sadaqa Jariyyah project (continuous charity) as a loving memory of our brother Abdulla Barahim (Rahimahullah). IDRF and their partners on the ground will build water wells in Yemen’s Aden and Hadramout regions. The following are just some of the impacts of your donation.

  • A regular motor-powered well is a water system that pumps water from the underground water table. The regular wells in Yemen use a motorized engine that runs off gasoline and costs $5,000.

  • A solar-powered well has a very similar setup, however, instead of running on a gasoline motor engine, the water-well uses solar energy to power the engine. A solar well costs $15,000 and is a comparatively eco-friendly and sustainable solution.

  • Both types of wells have pipelines that irrigate nearby farmland to ensure that farmers in the area can grow crops.

  • A motor-powered well will provide approximately 4,656 people/780 families access to clean water.

  • A solar-powered well will provide clean, safe water to approximately 9,000 people/1,500 families.

  • The expected completion time is 12 months from the day funds are released to IDRF.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except three: sadaqah jariya (ongoing charity, e.g. a waqf or endowment), beneficial knowledge (which he has left behind), or a righteous child who will pray for him." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, no 1376; he said this is a Saheeh Hasan hadeeth)
