Privacy Policy

1. Purpose and Scope

The Islamic Information Society of Calgary ("IISC," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and security of personal information entrusted to us by congregants, donors, volunteers, employees, contractors, and visitors. This Privacy Policy explains how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, retained, and protected in accordance with relevant Canadian privacy laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial legislation.

2. Personal Information We Collect

We may collect personal information when individuals interact with IISC, including but not limited to, when they:

  • Make donations or contributions (including for charitable receipting purposes);

  • Register for programs, classes, events, or services;

  • Subscribe to newsletters or communications;

  • Volunteer, work, or otherwise engage with IISC activities;

  • Communicate with IISC, access our facilities, or use our online platforms.

Personal information collected may include, where applicable: name, mailing address, email address, telephone number, payment or transaction details, donation history, and other information reasonably necessary for the specified purposes.

3. Use of Personal Information

 

Personal information is collected and used solely for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, including:

  • Processing donations and issuing official Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) tax receipts;

  • Administering programs, services, events, and volunteer activities;

  • Communicating with individuals regarding IISC initiatives, updates, and community matters;

  • Responding to inquiries and providing support;

  • Maintaining internal records and operational administration;

  • Meeting legal, regulatory, audit, and reporting obligations.

By providing personal information to IISC, individuals consent to its collection, use, and disclosure in accordance with this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise permitted or required by law. Consent may be withdrawn at any time by contacting IISC; however, withdrawal of consent may limit IISC’s ability to provide certain services, including issuing charitable tax receipts or maintaining participation in programs.

IISC implements reasonable physical, administrative, and technical safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. Access to personal and sensitive information is restricted to authorized personnel, volunteers, or service providers who require such access to perform their duties.

 

 

6. Disclosure to Third Parties

 

IISC does not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Personal information may be disclosed to third parties only as necessary to fulfill identified purposes or where required by law, including but not limited to:

  • Payment processors and donation platforms (e.g., PayPal, CanadaHelps, Stripe);

  • Customer relationship management (CRM) or administrative systems;

  • Government authorities or regulators, including the Canada Revenue Agency.

 

All third parties engaged by IISC are expected to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security standards.

7. Website, Cookies, and Online Tools

 

The IISC website (iisc.ca, iqamah.ca, and oneummah.ca) may use cookies or similar technologies to enhance functionality and the user experience. Users may adjust browser settings to refuse cookies; however, certain website features may not function properly as a result.

8. Email Communication and Newsletter Privacy

 

In accordance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), the Islamic Information Society of Calgary (IISC) is committed to safeguarding the privacy of our email subscribers. We collect email addresses solely for the following purposes:

  • To send updates regarding Society events, programs, and religious services.

  • To provide administrative notices regarding your membership or donations.

  • To share community news and newsletters you have specifically requested.

You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Newsletter emails and community updates sent by IISC include a functional "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom, powered by third-party MailChimp.

9. Access, Accuracy, and Corrections

 

Individuals have the right to request access to the personal information held by IISC and to request corrections where information is inaccurate or incomplete, including information processed through third-party platforms. Requests must be made in writing and will be addressed in accordance with applicable law.

10. Retention

 

Personal information is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or as required by legal, regulatory, or operational obligations, after which it is securely destroyed or anonymized.
